03/06/2026 | Matthew Tredwen , Rebecca Hallett
A new militaria collection has arrived at C&T Auctioneers.
Going live on June 24th, 'Ulster' is a collection of militaria belonging to the late Gary Campbell. In this article, we have a few words from his son, reflecting on his father's life as a collector and a handful of items from the auction catalogue.
What is Gary Campbell's Story?
"My father's passion for collecting began in his teenage years during a family holiday in England, where he made his very first purchase - a dagger. What started as a modest interest soon grew into a lifelong pursuit. By the time he married, his collection had expanded to fill an entire room, later extending into the roof space of the house, and eventually to the construction of a dedicated extension".
"Over the years, he became a familiar presence at the War and Peace Show in Kent, returning home each time with new additions to his ever-growing collection. He took great pride in sharing his passion with others, regularly exhibiting at events hosted by the Ulster Military Vehicle Club, Grey Point Fort in Holywood, and various town halls and community gatherings. One of his most memorable contributions was creating immersive replica trench experiences, bringing history vividly to life for visitors".
"An avid enthusiast of eBay and local antique shops, he was always on the lookout for unique pieces that carried stories of the past. He found immense joy in engaging with people of all ages, from young children to adults, and especially cherished the opportunity to meet and speak with living veterans".
"His interests extended beyond collecting; he had a deep passion for aircraft and the Royal Air Force. He was also actively involved in the film and television industry in Northern Ireland, contributing his expertise over many years. Above all, he held a long-standing dream ofone day opening his own museum—a vision rooted in his dedication to preserving and sharing history with future generations".
