Bidding at Auction | A simple guide

C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd. has proudly been bringing together sellers and bidders for over a decade.
Over the years we have developed a regular calendar of auctions across our varied departments, in both the traditional live format and an increasingly popular timed auction format.
For anyone who has not yet bid in one of our live auctions, let’s take a look at how it works...
How does online bidding work?
All of the auctions at C&T are now run online only, meaning we have no clients bidding in the room on auction day.
During a live auction, online bids become visible to the auctioneers and are treated as traditional room bids. This means that there may be competing bids from different platforms. If bidders on different platforms enter the same bid at the same time, the auctioneer will accept the bid they see first.
The main way that our clients bid is by registering an account on the C&T website and registering to bid in the sale.
Alternatively, you can use your Saleroom or EasyLiveAuctions account to bid through their platform. However, please be aware that bidders on these websites are subject to an additional 5.94% charge.
We recommend that you register well in advance of the sale so that our admin team have time to approve your account and for a smooth bidding experience on the day.
What are telephone bids?
Not a fan of bidding online? That's no problem!
You can book a telephone bid for auction day by contacting our office. We will take your contact details and the lot numbers you want to bid on, then one of our team will give you a ring during the auction and bid in the room on your behalf.
Be sure to do this at least a day before the auction so we have time to add it to the system.
What are Absentee/Commission bids?
Not going to be available on auction day? No problem!
Phone up the office and let us know what lots you want to bid on and your maximum bids. These details will be handed to the auctioneer.
Bidding will then commence at the starting bid and increase incrementally up to your maximum bid.
Again, make sure you give at least a day for us to update our system and get your bids to the auctioneer.
After the auction
After the excitement of auction day, our team will be busy working to get your invoice out to you, so keep an eye on your inbox! Invoices will show the cost breakdown, including the 26.4% buyer’s charge on the hammer price, and any applicable internet surcharges.
If you require shipping, just follow the link in the invoice email to send a request to our in house shipping department. Alternatively, if you're in the local area and would prefer to collect, you can follow the invoice link to schedule your collection time and we will ensure that your items are ready for you.
