Lego began manufacturing their interlocking toy bricks in 1949 and, in 1978, Lego produced their first minifigures which quickly became a staple feature of most sets. Since the 1950s, the Lego Group has released thousands of sets with a variety of themes including Space, Robots, Pirates, Trains, Vikings, Castles, Dinosaurs, Undersea Exploration, the Wild West and more. Some of the classic themes Lego continue to produce include Lego City (a line of sets depicting city life, introduced in 1973) and Lego Technic (a line aimed at emulating complex machinery, introduced in 1977).

Over the years, Lego has licensed themes from numerous cartoon and film franchises and even some from video games. These include BatmanIndiana JonesPirates of the CaribbeanHarry PotterStar Wars, and Minecraft. Although some of the licensed themes have a highly successful rate of sale (examples being Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones) Lego has expressed a desire to rely more upon their own characters and classic themes and less upon licensed themes related to movie and video game releases.

Lego is very popular at auction and can range from single lots to collections of boxed sets. If you've any lego you'd like to have value please contact our modern toy specialist, Tom, for a free valuation and advice on our auction process.
