C&T's auctions are now held exclusively online, where bidding is available through our website, the-saleroom website, and other online platforms. We're pleased to now offer two formats of auction on our website for buyers; Live Auctions and Timed Auctions!

What is the difference between a Live Auction and a Timed Auction? Quite simply, a 'Live Auction' is a traditional style of auction with an auctioneer on the rostrum, selling each lot consecutively until the last lot has been sold (as all our auctions are now held online, our Live Auctions are live-streamed and available to watch whilst the auction is ongoing). A 'Timed Auction' is a computer generated auction with a clock that counts down until a selected end time, when the auction will close (for Timed Auctions there is no physical auctioneer, and no video live-stream).

Viewing days

The majority of the lots to feature in our online auctions are held at our offices in Kenardington, Kent, and viewing of these is by appointment only. Should you wish to view one or more of the lots in an upcoming auction, please contact our office for details!

Registration

To bid in either one of our Live Auctions or a Timed Auction, you will need to set up an account.

For Live Auctions on our website, you will need to create a C&T account. Once an account has been set up, you will then be able to register to bid in our Live Auctions. Create your C&T account by clicking here

For Timed Auctions on our website, because they are set up using the-saleroom.com bidding technology, you will need to have an account with the the-saleroom.com to register. If you already have an account with the-saleroom.com, you will be able to login for our Timed Auctions via our website using this login information. If you do not already have an account with the-saleroom.com, it is easy to set one up on our website! Find out more here!

Bidding in our auctions

  1. Please note, a buyers premium of 22% + VAT (26.4% inclusive) is added to the hammer price in both the Live Auctions & Timed Auctions held on the C&T website. (Please note, when bidding directly through the-saleroom.com rather than the C&T website, an internet surcharge of 4.95% plus VAT is applied to the hammer price, in addition to our buyers premium of 22% + VAT (26.4% inclusive).
  2. To bid online, you can either bid live on the auction day through our website or the-saleroom.com, or leave your maximum bid through the online auction catalogue available, again, on our website or on the-saleroom.com.
  3. Absentee bids for auctions on the C&T website, may also be left with our office, but must be booked in and confirmed within 24 hours of the auction date.
  4. Bids may also be placed via telephone, where a member of our team from C&T Auctioneers will bid on a buyers behalf. Telephone bids are only accepted for items with an estimate of £100+. We will call you four to five lots prior to the lot you're interested in being offered for auction. There is no charge for telephone bidding. Please make sure all telephone bids are booked in and confirmed within 24 hours of the auction date. C&T Auctioneers cannot guarantee that all telephone requests will be honoured; due to the rising demand for telephone bidding, it may not be possible to have a line available, and we cannot be held responsible for any missed calls due to human or technical errors.

After the sale

Once the auction has been concluded, invoices will be emailed to all winning bidders, and will include an in-house postal quote should we be able to ship the item(s). If we are not able to ship, we will include details, where applicable, of the companies we recommend for shipping.

All successful bids placed online through the C&T website or left with the auctioneer / office pre-sale, are subject to our buyers premium, charged at 22% + VAT (26.4% inclusive). If bidding directly through the-saleroom.com, their internet surcharge of 4.95% plus VAT will also be applied. Some auctions held by C&T Auctioneers and Valuers may have different premium rates, this will be clearly noted in printed catalogues or auction terms posted online, please make sure you check this before taking part in the auction.

Successful buyers will be sent an invoice via email or post, and payment is requested within 7 days after the auction has ended. Payment methods accepted include cash in UK £’s sterling (up to the equivalent of €9,000 owing to money laundering regulations), Bank Transfer, Debit Cards and Visa / Mastercard credit cards (We only can accept payments on credit cards for payments less than £500).

Failure to make payment within 14 days of the auction will result in your account being blocked and you will be restricted from bidding at C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd in the future.

Lots which are not collected or shipped within 30 days of the auction will be placed into storage and fees will be applied as stated in our terms and conditions.

Shipping

C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd offer an in-house post and packing service for most auctions and aim to pack and despatch items within 14 days following payment. Unfortunately, we do not ship Toy Soldiers due to their delicate nature and time needed to pack them (the shipping for these can be conducted by recommended couriers such as Mailboxes Tunbridge Wells or Jentel Packing). We are also not able to offer in-house post and packing on some invoice totals over £3,000 or for very fragile, large or heavy items. These items will also need to be shipped by specialist shippers.

Antique Guns are not able to be shipped by C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd or its recommended shippers, outside of the UK. If you wish to purchase antique guns from outside the UK, then you will need to arrange your own collection and despatch. We can assist in preparing items for shipping, however a fee will apply for this service.

C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd cannot hand over bought swords or daggers without the buyer providing photo ID (Age verification 18+), whether this be by collection (preferable for bladed items) or shipping.

All items are shipped at the risk of the buyer and C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd are not responsible for any packages lost or damaged in transit following despatch from our office.
